Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session. The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight. Hamilton finished practice in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second off Piastri's best. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
